The Impact Catalyst's expertise in Just Energy Transition is grounded in its commitment to ensuring a just and equitable shift from a fossil fuel-based economy to low carbon energy technologies, which addresses the developmental needs of communities.
Informed by this mandate and aligned with the Sustainable Development Goal of climate action, the Just Energy Transition Department is using a unique approach that combines grassroot levels of engagement, policy advocacy, and innovative solutions to ensure that the benefits of the energy transition reach all segments of society. Contrary to the status quo, a bottom-up stakeholder engagement strategy is being used to develop a common vision for a just transition in regions where fossil fuel-based sectors, such as coal mining, are the main drivers of the economy.
As a collaborative platform, the Impact Catalyst, through this department, recognises the value of engaging with communities as a key aspect to building close collaborations with the government and establishing forums within communities to develop a vision that fits the context, creates training and job opportunities and establishes new business.
At the Impact Catalyst, we believe that a truly just energy transition is one that prioritises the needs of communities, creating opportunities for economic growth, skills development, and sustainable livelihoods while addressing climate action.
