The Impact Catalyst has installed solar panels in eight schools across the Northern Cape and Limpopo.

Amid South Africa’s celebration of Social Development Month, themed: “Working together to build caring and sustainable communities,” the Impact Catalyst, remains committed to fostering public-private partnerships in South Africa to drive progress towards Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through transformative projects that bolster local economies and empower communities.

The high unemployment rate in South Africa has been identified by Komatsu South Africa as threatening the future of millions of young people in the country, as well as the stability and economic prospects of the country.

This road safety awareness and education project, implemented in 22 schools across Musina and Blouberg in Limpopo, involved training 22 unemployed youth to conduct road safety education for learners in grades five to ten.

In South Africa, it is common for social cohesion and socio-economic upliftment initiatives to be launched without sufficient and meaningful engagement with local communities and municipal governments.

As a Collaborative Regional Development (CRD) platform, the Impact Catalyst, through its Social Development and Communications Department, partners with local municipalities and communities to identify and address regional social challenges, co-create tailored socio-economic development initiatives, and secure funding from corporate entities and development agencies.

These sessions aimed to build partnerships and enhance residents' understanding and knowledge of the Just Energy Transition and its implications for the Mpumalanga Province.

Future schooling scenarios by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) indicate that formal education, as we know it today, will shift towards technological advances that support individualised learning.

To date, this collaboration has resulted in the collection of 452 tons of waste, with 189 tons recycled.
